ХАДІ-21е

The History of Creation

«KhADI-21e» was built in 1980-1983 with the use of  «KhADI-8» chassis. It was made under the guidance of senior engineer of the Laboratory of Racing Cars Yu. Stebchenko, who had participated previously in the creation  of  an  electromobile  «KhADI-11e».

«KhADI-21e» was completely different from its predecessors not only in appearance, but also in fundamental layout drawing. The electromobile was made not by a «closed circuit», adopted by the majority of record cars, but it had uncovered wheels and even an anti-wing, that was commonly used in the cars involved in the closed-circuit race. The rear axle had no suspension and differential gear train which was a characteristic feature of the car configuration for the races on short distances. The steering wheel was detachable for the convenience of seating into the cockpit.

Initially, the front and rear wheels were of the same size, but later,  for the record races, the front wheels of small size,  with tyres 4,00-12"  were set.

The power plant consisted of two armored starter-generators «SH-10», which were transferring a torque to a common gearbox. It was powered by a battery of twelve silver-zinc energy storage devices. The possibility to work with the power supply from both twelve and eight energy storage devices was provided. Speed control on the move was not provided; the switching between groups of energy storage devices could be done only on-the-spot. The calculated maximum speed was of 250 km/h.
