ХАДІ-27

The History of Creation

«KhADI-27» is one of the latest designs of the KhAHI LRC record cars. Initially the work at the project of the heavy dragster was started by            P. Boroday at the Kharkov Malyshev plant. According to his concept, the dragster was planned to be equipped with the engine «GAZ-53» with the turbocharge, installed transversally in front of the the racer's seat. For the torque transfer to the rear axle the chain drive had to be used. Further (1985-1986) the work at the project was continued in the KhAHI LRC. In the course of this work the engine was replaced by «GAZ-13» and a two-range transmission was introduced. Then the work with the use of the engine «GAZ-53» continued, but it was installed lengthwise; the gear box having been removed from the transmission. The project experienced a number of changes and was called «KhADI-27». Conditionally, the work could be divided into two stages.

The first stage included the application of the engine «GAZ-13» installed transversally, and of a handmade two-stage change gearbox.

The second stage implied the application of the engine «GAZ-53» installed lengthwise and equipped with the turbocharge, and the removal of the change gearbox from the transmission. In the final version of     «KhADI-27» the naturally aspirated engine «GAZ-53» was used.

The project was developed by P. Boroday, I. Lukashev, J. Twibell,   I. Voeikov and the entrant of the laboratory N. Shalduga. The work of the laboratory  was  supervised  by  G. Billys.
