The History of Creation

The KhAHI LRC started to create dragsters at the end of 1970s – at the beginning of 1980s, since at that time there was a possibility of holding short distance races with starting from rest, and the creation of record cars with high speeds developed from flying start actually became senseless. In 1979–1982 there appeared projects of electrodragsters «KhADI-14e» and «KhADI-22e», though it was decided to equip the first car like this with the classical piston engine of internal combustion.

The initiator of designing the automobile intended for participation in races for setting up the speed record in the class up to 500 cm³, was the Secretary of Kharkiv regional branch of VSAAAF (Voluntary Society of Assistance to Army, Aviation and Fleet) O. Akimov, who provided the opportunity to acquire the necessary components for the automobile.

Students engaged in the LRC activities A. Kovalenko, I. Lukashev, as well as a young engineer of the LRC M. Grinenko worked on the creation of the automobile , which was painted by O. Rubanov.

The chassis looked like a space frame made of aluminium pipes with the glass and plastic air fairing. The engine from the racing motorcycle «JAWA-DT-500» was used, being installed behind the seat of the racer. Methanol was used as a fuel. There was a very short beam axle that had no elastic suspension. On the axle the follower gear of the chain main gear and the brake gear from the racing car «Estonia-15M» were fastened. The possibility of back mounting of the anti-wing at high stands was provided, however it was not used in all races.
