ХАДІ-13е

The History of Creation

Record setting car «KhADI-13e» was designed and built in the Laboratory of Racing Cars (LRC) in KhAHI under the guidance of                V. K.  Nikitin. The design was based on one of the drafts for the record setting jet car «KhADI-9» (which at that time was under development in the KhAHI LRC in collaboration with Kharkiv Art and Industry Institute), with halving all sizes. This scheme provided a decrease of the frontal area and aerodynamic drag, but it required a fundamental change in the layout as compared with the previous model «KhADI-11e», in order to allocate the components in a narrow and long car body. The power was supplied by ten silver-zinc batteries. Unlike «KhADI-11e», «KhADI-13e» was equipped with the electronic speed control system. The chassis looked like a tube space frame; the body was made of fiberglass reinforced plastic. To increase the stability of the car the stabilizer was located in its rear part and small wing flaps were mounted on each side. Above the racing driver's seat the fairing was mounted, but it was not used in record-setting runs. The front suspension and steering were taken from «KhADI-3»; the rear suspension was not provided. Czechoslovak aircraft tyres «Barum Aero» were installed on the front wheels and the rear wheels were fitted with standard high-speed  tyres  made  by  NIISHP.

The construction of «KhADI-13e» began at the end of 1974 and it was finished in February 1976.
