The History of Creation
The racing car dragster «KhADI-26» was created in the LRC in 1985.
The car project was the result of development of the ideas laid down in the design of the car «KhADI-24», however, unlike its predecessor it had 2 engines «JAWA DT-500», the carrying system in the form of a pipe space frame made of the aluminum alloy. The opportunity to purchase components was provided by the Secretary of Kharkiv regional branch of VSAAAF (Voluntary Society of Assistance to Army, Aviation and Fleet) O. Akimov.
The project was developed by M. Grinenko, I. Lukashev, A. Kovalenko, industrial training master I. Voeikov. Jacob Twibell began to fabricate air cowling and to paint the new car, George Billys ran the l aboratory.
During the car testing various schemes of power units layout were used. In the first version the engines were placed on different sides from the axle of the rear wheels, in the second – they were both placed behind the rear axle. For the first time in this laboratory a two spring diaphragm clutch mounted on the axle of the rear wheels was used in this car.
In 1987 the cars «KhADI-26» and «KhADI-27» were displayed at the exhibition held in Plovdiv in Bulgaria, as well as at the exhibition of scientific and technical creativity of youth (STCY) in Moscow.
